For the fourth consecutive year KFC has assisted the with their annual cricket tour, which this year has taken the Black Rock, St. Michael institution’s U-15 team to the island of St. Vincent.

From Monday, March 21, 2011 to Saturday, March 26, 2011 KFC Ellerslie are scheduled to contest a series of five matches against varying opposition, two of which will be encounters against St. Vincent’s National U-15 team.

Following the successful results of the teams which previously toured Trinidad and Tobago in 2008, Grenada in 2009, and St. Lucia last year, Cricket Master of KFC Ellerslie, Dwayne Best, said he was looking forward to another impressive performance from this year’s team, especially after the good run they had in last year’s local Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), U-15 cricket competition, where they reached the semi-finals:

“We have been playing at a consistently high level over the last few years, reaching at least the semi-finals of the local competition and performing well against regional teams. This is a great credit to the commitment of our youngsters who have put in the effort needed to remain at the top of their game, and also a credit to our generous sponsors KFC who have provided us with unwavering support inclusive of training equipment and KFC branded playing gear, along with additional critical assistance necessary to allow us to continue striving for success.”

When KFC was approached by Ellerslie prior to the tour to Trinidad and Tobago in 2008 there was no hesitation. KFC’s Marketing Coordinator, Shekelia Barrow said they remain committed to assisting the school with its annual tours, noting they are of great value to the development of the youngsters:

“KFC remains committed to making a positive contribution to the lives of young sports persons and giving them the opportunity to interact with and be exposed to other cultures is one way in which we believe we can assist. In addition, KFC Ellerslie’s commendable performances over the last few years have warranted them being granted opportunities to experience varied playing conditions…we are happy to make their dreams a reality.”

Fourteen students outfitted in KFC branded uniforms are taking part in this year’s tour to St. Vincent. Additionally, coaching support and parents are also travelling with the team which is scheduled to return to Barbados Sunday, March 17, 2011, following what is expected to be a successful trip.
