Scotiabank Junior International Tennis Tournament serves up excitement

160 junior tennis players from around the world converged on the National Tennis Centre, which began March 28th, for the Barbados Scotiabank Junior International Tennis Tournament 2015. The tournament concludes April 3rd.

Over 36 countries including Barbados will take part in this 21st successive International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world ranking tournament hosted by the Barbados Tennis Association. The tournament, sponsored by Scotiabank, is open to both boys and girls in the under-18 and under-14 age groups.

Scotiabank Marketing Manager, Sharon Small stated: “We are very excited to be part of this event. These international junior tournaments provide a platform for our players to hone and improve their skills at a level that only international competition can give. Our sponsorship of this tournament is a continuation of Scotiabank’s support of youth and sports. We strongly believe in the positive benefits that sports can have on a young person’s life.”

The Junior International tournament is a highly successful event that attracts many high calibre players – some of whom have gone on to be top-ranked juniors and professional players,” stated Sandra Osbourne, vice president of the Barbados Tennis Association. She pointed out that both of Barbados’ top Davis Cup players Darian King and Haydn Lewis have successfully participated in this tournament.

The tournament is hosted at the National Tennis Centre, Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, St Michael (Under 18 division) and at Barbados Yacht Club, Upper Bay Street, St Michael (Under 14 division). The tournament takes the form of Under 18 Boys and Under 18 Girls singles qualifying and main draw and doubles main draw, and Under 14 Boys and Under 14 Girls singles round robin, main draw, and consolation draw, and doubles main draw.
