The Government of Trinidad and Tobago will host the Forty-First Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). The Governors will meet on May 25 and 26, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The Board of Governors is the Bank’s highest policy-making body.

At the opening ceremony on May 25, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, will give the opening address, while CDB President, Dr. Warren Smith, who officially assumed office on May 1, will present his first Statement to the Board in this new capacity.

Each year, CDB’s Annual Meeting is held in a different member country of the Bank, which is headquartered in Barbados. Trinidad and Tobago, a founding member of CDB, last hosted the Annual Meeting in 2004, in Tobago.

The Governors will engage in two discussion sessions, one on “Recent Financial Sector Crises in the Caribbean: Lessons for the Future”, and the other on “Unlocking Climate Change Finance: Opportunities and Constraints”.

A number of other events will precede the Governors’ meeting, including a meeting of the Bank’s Board of Directors on May 23, when Dr. Smith will preside over his first Board meeting as Chairman. On May 24, there will be a meeting of Contributors to CDB’s Special Development Fund and the William G. Demas Memorial Lecture. A Youth Forum will be held on May 26, and will focus on the topic “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Caribbean Mobile Market”.
