It is with a deep sense of sadness and grief that I extend deepest condolences to the wife, children, family and friends of our late Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Thompson had, from his youth shown the potential to become a strong leader.
His intellect, debating and oratory skills, coupled with his charismatic approach , helped to propel him to hold the highest office in this land.
He brought to his office an approach which endeared the youth towards him.
I shall forever hold fond memories of our relationship which improved in the late 1990’s when we attended a Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Namibia. We were mature enough to rise above partisan political ties and put Barbados’ interests first.
As a result of the ‘cut and thrust‘ of politics within recent times in Parliament, we would have differences of opinions and of course, stiff verbal battles. That however, did not impact on the high measure of respect which I held for him and his office.
I encourage all Barbarians to follow his examples of loyalty, courage and commitment to family, Party and country.
To the new Prime Minister, the Cabinet and the Democratic Labour Party family, I wish you God’s blessings as you mourn your loss.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE
