CPA Canada welcome PwC member firms operating in the Caribbean, as ‘Pre-Approved Employers’

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) welcomes PwC member firms operating in the Caribbean as pre-approved employers.

This program provides the opportunity for individuals seeking a Canadian CPA designation to achieve the required competencies in a work environment under effective supervision and mentorship.

Not only do our students receive real-world work experience but the pre-approved employer and the profession benefit from the talents and abilities of those seeking the CPA designation,” explains Nancy Foran, CPA Canada’s Vice President of International.

“The profession is operating in a rapidly evolving, global economy and there is value in the students in experiencing it first-hand,” she added.

Practical experience, education and evaluation are the key components of the Canadian CPA certification program.

Michelle White Ying

Michelle White-Ying, PwC East Caribbean Assurance Partner and Human Capital Leader says, “We are happy to provide our Canadian CPA students with an option that recognises our high standard of staff training and development, which can assist them in furthering their careers. The CPA Canada designation is globally recognised and locally accessible. Once earned, it provides our employees with credentials that help meet client and professional growth needs.

White-Ying credits colleague Nadine Largie, Learning and Development Leader, PwC Jamaica, for working with Anna-Marie Christian, Director, International Programs for CPA Canada to achieve the recognition.

The combined effort will benefit CPA Canada students employed at PwC offices in; Barbados and St. Lucia (PwC East Caribbean), The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Turks & Caicos Islands. Along with the previously signed agreement with PwC Bermuda, the majority of the PwC member firms operating in the Caribbean now have access to the program.

“For those students at PwC in the Eastern Caribbean, reporting practical experience has become streamlined; however, accounting students in all working environments are equally supported. We thank PwC for partnering with us to achieve such recognition,” says Christian.
