SUMMER CAMP FROM JUVENILE LIAISON SCHEME CAN DO MORE IF SPONSORED
A call is being made for the annual Summer Camp of the Juvenile Liaison scheme to have a greater financial involvement by concerned citizens and companies across the country…
Craft is another means of expression for At Risk youth to potentially gain a trade instead of becoming a young crime statistic…
This year’s camp was under the theme of SODAS, not the beverage used during the ongoing heatwave, rather an acronym for? Situations; Actions; Disadvantages; Advantages and Solutions.
Director of the Camp, Constable Wilson Clarke cited a high level of absenteeism was due in part to strictures of the economy and parents consequently unable to provide for their children in basic yet key areas.
He hinted sponsorship could make this less likely next year, he was referring to when absenteeism was due to a lack of bus fares as well as some parents unable to provide Lunch, if the camp had the backing of truly concerned citizens and companies, then this issue would become non-existent.
This year’s top winner was Khadejah McConney who won top spots in Canvas craft, Leather making, Best Behaved and Overall Camper.
One of the students, Lateasha Hoyte, expressed a wish for Sports to be added to the camp’s activities.
This was noted by Guest Speaker, Assistant Superintendent of Police – Barry Hunte, he pointed out children who attend the annual event usually become better members of society, he liked how this year’s theme of SODAS was geared to teaching children the art of Self Governance.
