U.S. Embassy celebrates Earth Day by cleaning River Bay Beach

Staff of the U.S. Embassy in Barbados and their family members joined volunteers from the Future Centre Trust and Dare to Care in cleanup activities at River Bay, St. Lucy. The cleanup, which was organized by the Embassy’s Community Liaison Office (CLO) was in recognition of Earth Day 2019.

Among the volunteers was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy, <strong>Joaquin Monserrate</strong> gave brief remarks thanking the participants and encouraging them to continue their efforts in protecting the environment and he noted that beach cleanups are a simple way each individual can better the ocean's ecosystem.

Earth Day is an annual event observed on April 22 to celebrate the environment and raise awareness of today’s environmental challenges as well as celebrate the progress made in conservation and environmental protection over the past decades.
