BLP Women’s League – “‘T’ for Tuition, March 9th”

The Barbados Labour Party Women’s League is renewing its focus by expanding its role beyond women’s empowerment at the party level to a wider educational and empowerment thrust.

The focus will include empowerment of girls through its development of a Home Economics space at the Government Industrial School Girls Residence in St. Lucy.

The venture ‘T’ for Tuition, a special tea party at Ilaro Court on March 9, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm will start the fundraising effort.

President of the BLP Women’s League Rosemary Leon emphasized the importance of training and development for young women and highlighted that this is the league’s contribution to International Women’s Day activities where the focus is on women and girls.

The League is keen on complimenting the existing rehabilitation programme at the GIS Girls’ Residence.

Principal of the GIS, Mr. Erwin Leacock is delighted to have the support of the League and said he was heartened by the offer to assist.

He welcomes any support to enhance their rehabilitation programmes and a Home Economics space would assist the girls in acquiring culinary and other life skills, increasing their chances of employment and entrepreneurship at the end of their stay at the GIS.

Entertainment will be provided by live band “Harmony Angels” in addition to a fashion “Tete & Toe” show, a dance presentation , silent auction and more.
