Sophia Mendes and Arthur Wysocki, both 14 years old and students at The Codrington School, handed over a brand new computer and printer to Margaret Daniels, coordinator of the YWCA Reading Club in Bridgetown.

The Reading Club is one of the many activities that the YWCA undertakes in local communities. It helps kids of primary and secondary school age by providing a safe space, resources and positive support to help with their school work and to learn crafts and useful life skills.

The new computer will help those who do not have access to a computer at home, something that is essential for these days for computer based education and homework.

The YWCA’s computer was old and unreliable so Sophia and Arthur volunteered to take up the challenge of buying them a new computer. They raised $1,160.00 through different activities such as washing the cars of parents and teachers and organizing a raffle at the school’s Christmas fair.

As well as running the Reading Club every Saturday the YWCA provide free meals to 170 children every day and organizes classes in different subjects from accounts and book-keeping to nail art to help young people get off to a good start.

The computer was bought from the Promotech HP shop in Sheraton Mall who gave the computer and printer at a specially discounted price.
