The public outreach programme of the Diabetes Association of Barbados (DAB) will be fueled by RUBIS Ultra Tec fuel for the fourth year.
Each year the DAB’s mobile team visits various communities to share information about the prevention of diabetes and advise Barbadians living with the disease. This includes sharing timely, appropriate and practical advice and information on the benefits of healthy nutrition, planned physical activity and regular blood glucose/sugar monitoring as part of their management plan. The mobile unit is therefore critical to the Association’s objectives and RUBIS has committed their support in supplying fuel for the bus in 2019.
This year the DAB has several plans and projects which will focus on those coping with the disease and preventing its spread. The events include the Sponsor-a-Child with Diabetes Programme which will provide diabetic services and supplies to children throughout the year; the Diabetes Conversation Map Training Programme which contains practical diabetes education sessions in a group setting; hosting a wellness camp for youth that may show evidence of development or potential for non-communicable diseases; and the 5K walk and run event.

Andrea Gooding, Marketing Manager, RUBIS praised the work of the DAB. Ms. Gooding said “We remain supportive of the Association’s work to reach and educate persons who do not have the disease and also those who do with equal vigor.” She added, “We are especially pleased that we are able to directly support the DAB’s Mobile Unit with the provision of fuel for another year.”
Keith Wilson, M.V.O., Trustee, DAB said, “We are appreciative of the support and assistance RUBIS is offering us for our Diabetes Community Outreach Programme“.
The DAB’s Mobile Unit has a four-member team which conducts free counselling, risk assessment screening and testing for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and weight as well as Body Mass Index to the communities they visit.
