A group of restaurateurs on the South Coast have come together to promote eating out among locals and visitors alike, offering patrons special deals and the chance win amazing prizes, including a cruise for two.

The group of eight restaurant owners, led by co-owner of Naru Restaurant Lisa Taylor, has launched a project called Dine South Barbados in an effort to bring customers back to the Hastings, Christ Church area after the negative experiences associated with the sewage problems previously affecting the area.

The participating restaurants in the programme are Ackee Tree Restaurant, Blakey's On The Boardwalk, Bubba's Sports Bar & Restaurant, Champers Restaurant, Naru Restaurant & Bar, Salt Café, Tapas Restaurant, and the trio of Urban Kitchen, Chutney's and RB's Rotisserie.

The brain-child of Mrs. Taylor, Dine South brings together these restaurants and other supporting businesses in Hastings to offer special menus, and discounts coupons through a dining “passport.”

Looking at the event which became the impetus for the initiative, Mrs. Taylor said “The improvement in the sewage situation has helped a lot but we now need to get the confidence back among local diners to produce the numbers that we would normally see.”

“Every customer will get a deal, and the feeling they are getting something back, because each of the eight restaurants is offering a special – some will give a free cocktail with a minimum spend, or a free glass of wine or a dessert.”

Here’s how it works. When you dine at one of the participating restaurants, you can get your Dining Deals Passport.

According to Mrs. Taylor, “To complete your Dine South experience, you must journey to each restaurant featured and take advantage of each dining special, for which you will receive a stamp.”

Once the book is completed, drop it off at either Naru or Tapas Restaurants by Saturday, December 15 for a chance to win either a dining experience for two, a staycation for two at South Beach Hotel or the grand prize of a cruise for two on-board the cruise ship Carnival Fascination.

You can also ‘like‘ and ‘follow‘ Dine South Barbados on Facebook and Instagram to win weekly prizes from Wine World. The passport booklet also features other eateries and businesses offering coupon discounts.

Although the initiative by the South Coast restaurant owners only officially started on October 18, Mrs. Taylor said the response had been good.

Besides the participating restaurants themselves, Ms. Taylor credits sponsorship by Corporate Barbados for making the project possible. She adds that there’s talk about continuing Dine South in coming years…
