MIA MOTTLEY ADMINISTRATION ACTIVELY SEEKING NEW AVENUES OF EMPLOYMENT FOR RECENTLY RETRENCHED WORKERS
The Ministry of Labour is assiduously looking to achieve Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s objective of retraining civil service employees who were recently laid off to regain employment with new skills…
He noted the first cadre of retrenched staff if given the correct skillset, can even seek gainful employment outside of Barbados or work locally for overseas concerns; –
The Minister held the press briefing with both the Chief Labour Officer and the Senior Labour Officer, and explained every avenue will be explored to ensure any unemployed public sector staff will get every advantage, be it locally or otherwise; –
At the same time, Mr Jordan realises the Ministry’s remaining staff must be appropriately trained to handle increased calls of people seeking to get back into the workforce, he acknowledged modern technology allows any laid off employee to almost instantly seek redress for their situation and the Labour Ministry must be ready to take up the slack; –
Mr Jordan took time to answer journalists’ questions after attending a specialised seminar designed to assist any staff recently affected by modifications from the Barbados Economic Recovery & Transformation programme, which had approval from the IMF but would affect the livelihood of approximately 1,500 members of the public sector.
