While Barbados has been whipped into a political frenzy following the long awaited official announcement of the date of the 2018 General Election, two lucky A One Supermarkets shoppers have each walked away with $500 in FREE Groceries after accurately guessing the May 24th date.

Shanice Walters and Laurin Grimes, were declared winners after their names were randomly selected and verified by judges, when the Facebook based “Guess The Election Date” competition staged by AOne Supermarkets concluded.

The contest which commenced on April 12th, 2018 saw fans being required to click the provided link before entering their name, contact information and their proposed date of the election on a custom landing page.

Following the receipt of thousands of entries, Ms. Walters and Ms. Grimes who have been long standing customers of both the Carlton and Emerald City stores respectively, emerged as winners much to their delight. While neither winner disclosed the extent of the strategy used to correctly identify the date, Ms. Walters suggested that “it was her keen ear when listening to the local call-in radio programs” that somewhat influenced her decision.

Marketing Manager, A One Supermarkets, Reva Graham noted that the competition’s aim was to engage with and reward loyal Facebook fans while creating a neutral environment for opinions on current affairs to be shared.

A One Supermarkets is deeply rooted in Barbados and so it is imperative that we keep a finger on the pulse of activities within the varying communities we serve and the Country at large. There was much debate across the island as to when elections were likely to be staged and since we are always looking for new ways to give back to our customers and fan base, we thought this a fun opportunity to engage our Facebook family in topical discussion while giving them the opportunity to win with us.”

The A One Supermarket’s team was extremely satisfied with the public’s reaction to the competition. “The contest gained immense traction and proved to be quite popular. The level of interest was evident from not only the number of entries received but the fact that it was organically shared by users to other social media sites and became topic of discussion on a number of radio shows.” Graham said.

The competition concluded on April 26th, 2018 when the official Election date announcement was made by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart. Only entries received by 12:00 a.m. on that date were therefore considered valid.

With only a few weeks remaining before Election Day, AOne Supermarkets encourages the public to monitor their official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Aonesupermarkets/ as there may be additional chances to win.
