Illegal motor racers arrested and bikes seized in Dominican Republic
Highway patrols in the Dominican Republic took action over the Easter Week holiday to put a stop to the motorcycle racing on major highways.
Santo Domingan media reported how patrols assigned to the Military Police Commission of the Ministry of Public Works and the Directorate of Security for Ground Transport seized the motorcycles of several who were caught racing or doing acrobatics on the road, putting their lives in danger for both them and those who use the highways.
Participants race for large sums of money. General Stanislaus Regalado had warned racers faced arrest and their bikes confiscated to prevent any tragedies.
The first seizures made were Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at the 30 kilometre mark of Las Americas Expressway, near Villa Altagracia on the Duarte Highway as well as on the Nov. 6th Highway that leads to San Cristobal.
