CARIBBEAN DATA IS NEW NICHE MARKET FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
If Barbados and peoples of the region are to truly thrive and prosper in longevity, then Caribbean Governments must create avenues for statisticians to create way overdue data in both nutrition and heart disease.
Dr Raymond Massy of the Sandy Crest Medical Centre spoke to participants at a health fair in St James on the topic ‘Steps to a healthier heart’;-
Dr Massy acknowledged administrations throughout the Caribbean see far more benefit in handling symptoms rather than acquire numbers and being aware of either occurring or developing trends but this short sightedness will only allow NCD’s or Non Chronic Communicable Diseases the upper hand;-
The cardiologist was visibly frustrated in not being able to advise patients if certain fruits or meats peculiar to this side of the Atlantic would hinder or help their hearts and circulation;-
Recently, there have been a high number of incidents of persons collapsing and fainting in public, many of whom were victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and who eventually die because they did not receive help (namely Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – CPR), in a timely manner.
