Allergies are common annoyances to many of us. From dust to pollen to food to pets, allergic reactions can range from mild to severe. But is it an allergy? Irritants, intolerances, sinuses or your mind just playing tricks on you, there is a lot to be considered and sifted through before you declare it’s an allergy.

The Barbados Drug Service in collaboration with Bayview Hospital is pleased to host Professor Menachem Rottem, Israeli Allergy and Immunotherapy specialist as part of the Drug Service Lecture series on March 6th, 2018 6:00 pm at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Prof. Rottem is one of the world’s top specialists in Allergies and Immunotherapy and is delighted to be in Barbados for the first time to share key information with the public on the allergy and asthma issues that cause many breathing problems, skin irritations and sometimes death.

He is Head of the Allergy Asthma and Immunology Service at the Emek Medical Center, Afula, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. The public is encouraged to participate in the pre-event activities from 6 pm at the LESC which include health checks, allergy testing, giveaways and educational interactions followed by the lecture at 7 pm.

On Wednesday March 7th, Professor Rottem will be the featured speaker at “Allergies, Asthma & Urticaria” a continuing medical education event on Wednesday March 7th, 5pm at the 3W’s Pavilion, UWI Cave Hill. This event will feature local speakers Dr. Hilary Moore, Emergency Medicine Specialist; Dr. Sean Bullen, Paediatrician and Dermatologist and Dr. Dawn Alleyne, Intensivist and Pulmonologist. Topics include chronic urticaria, asthma, the role of immunotherapy and more. This event is specially designed for doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
