A leading oncologist in Barbados laments the state of the current economy, especially since it appears to be forcing many women to decide between testing against breast cancer or to ensure the utilities and groceries are covered.

Director of the Breast Screening Programme, Dr Shirley Hannonman-Jhagroo addressed participants at the recent launch for the Walk For The Cure by Champions In Pink and was held at Sugar Bay in Hastings.

She explained how the funds raised by this walk normally are used for the improvement and maintenance of equipment, however based on the downwards trend the monies raised are instead diverted towards keeping the cost getting tested at a fairly decent rate;-

Ms Hinds indicated there would be a return of the Wuk Up Workout and many popular calypsonians like Mikey will donae their voices and time for the cause, she added there would be a Park and Ride to make attending easier and details will be made known closer to the Oct. 1st event.

This was confirmed by Monique Hinds, Office Manager of the Breast Screening Programme, who nevertheless wants to see if Champions in Pink can score 30,000 walkers for the October 1st event;-

Dr Jhagroo also gave a breakdown how figures have been dropping;-
