Gay couple’s joy in Bermuda at their wedded bliss

A gay couple recently married in Bermuda and noted their special day could not have gone better…

Bermudian Bruce Whayman and Roland Maertens were able to marry at the Registry General’s office, thanks to the May decision by Judge Charles-Etta Simmons that legalised gay marriage.

The couple were joined at the ceremony by Mr Whayman’s parents and one of his friends.

Mr Whayman observed; “I am obviously very happy and elated that we were able to do something like this in Bermuda.

I never expected that we would be able to. It means an enormous amount to me.

He added: “It went very smoothly, we were even ahead of schedule — it was very efficient.”

Mr Maertens added: “It was lovely; we had a wonderful ceremony with friends and family…”
