Fate of Barbados’ Empire Theatre must be decided on once & for all (Pt 2)

A prominent member of Barbados’ judiciary suggests radical plans need to be developed concerning abandoned or derelict buildings within the capital before it is decided for the public by nature itself.

This urgent plea from Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch, who delivered the keynote address celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Urban Development Commission at Bridge Street Mall 8th Aug, he cited how urban sprawl is pushing the borders of Bridgetown into Christ Church itself.

However, before any decisions of a hasty nature are implemented, Mr Birch also observed the law concerning the Commission itself needs to be updated…

Once all Bajans can agree legislation matches the development of Barbadians in the 21st Century, only then can buildings such as the Empire finally be considered…
