Shortly before 7:00 am on Wednesday, a military plane with 20 people on board was forced to make an emergency landing after reportedly catching fire after takeoff.

This was confirmed by Station Officer at the Airport Fire Station, Clarence Hinds who says three fire tenders responded to the emergency.

The flight was accompanied by officials from the Barbados Defence Force, the Royal Barbados Police Force and the ambulance service, however no injuries were reported.

The Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) remained operational during the incident and stayed open.
