An overload of traffic, with people seeking to get information from the CARIFESTA Website over the weekend caused the site to crash and users were getting a ‘site unavailable’ message up to yesterday.
However, technicians at the server site which is hosted by the Guyana based CARICOM Secretariat worked diligently and now have the site up and running again. With the many disruptions caused by weather and rescheduling, the calendar on the site will now have to be updated on a daily basis and so patrons are asked to check about performances and the locations to determine if there are any changes.
The passage of Tropical Storm Harvey caused havoc with the flight arrivals and the rescheduling of performances at various venues around the island. Flooding at venues like the Alexandra School in St. Peter curtailed performances there over the weekend. The storm also meant that some delegations did not arrive in time to perform and so they had to be rescheduled.
In addition, the subsequent change of the Opening Ceremony to Sunday afternoon into night meant that there were performers and delegations who were taking part in the Opening Ceremony who had to shelve their other scheduled performances to be available for the spectacle that took place at Kensington Oval on Sunday.
We wish to thank the delegations and the public for your patience and adaptability as we make these changes and we look forward to your full participation in the upcoming events.
The public is asked to check on the latest updates for information which can also be found on the GIS Website, can be heard on radio or seen in the press or by contacting the Secretariat at 824-4751.
