19 year old facing smuggling of narcotics charges

Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and charged Shaqem Najeen Kadeem Ben Lashley nineteen (19) years of Welches Lot #2, Gibson Land, Redman’s Village, St. Thomas, for a number of drug related offences. These offences were committed on Thursday the 10th of August 2017, while at Terminal 2, Grantley Adams International Airport, Seawell, Christ Church.

Lashley was arrested and charged for:

  • Possession of Cannabis
  • Trafficking of Cannabis
  • Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply
  • Importation of cannabis

Circumstances

Lashley made arrangements with another person to have the cannabis concealed in a barrel of foodstuff imported into Barbados. During an inspection of the barrels by Custom Enforcement, the cannabis was discovered concealed in twenty-four (24) cans labelled beans. The police was informed and Lashley was subsequently arrested and charged by the police for the offences.

Lashley appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court on Friday the 11th of August.

He was granted bail at the sum of $22,000.00 with one surety to reappear in the District ‘B’ Court on the 17th of August 2017. As part of his condition of bail he is to report to District ‘A’ every Monday and Wednesday.
