Yoon Hang “John” Kim, M.D., has joined the growing team of cancer care specialists at Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida, as Director of Integrative Medicine.
In his new role, Dr. Kim will lead the team of acupuncturists, massage therapists, registered dietitians and exercise physiologists that provides patients with evidence-based treatments designed to combat cancer-related side effects and enhance physical and emotional strength.
Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute at the Baptist Hospital campus, he served as a consultant to numerous hospitals, clinics and academic institutions, designing and establishing their integrative medicine programs and curriculums. Dr. Kim’s extensive teaching experience includes positions at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, and the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, California, where he served as Dean of Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Kim attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and was the recipient of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Student Research Fellowship. He completed an internship in family practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, and a residency in preventive medicine at San Diego State University/University of California.
His post-graduate training includes a residential fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, where he received the Osher Fellowship Award. He also earned a master’s degree in public health from San Diego State University.
“Taking care of the whole patient is central to Miami Cancer Institute’s mission, and Dr. Kim brings extensive experience in creating comprehensive integrative medicine programs that treat the whole individual,” said Michael Zinner, M.D., founding CEO and executive medical director of the Institute. “He will play a key role in helping our patients improve their physical, mental and emotional well-being.”
Dr. Kim is a member of the Editorial Board of Explore – The Journal of Science and Healing, and he has published more than 20 articles on the health benefits of integrative medicine therapies. His professional affiliations include American College of Preventive Medicine, American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and the Society for Integrative Oncology.
