More than 16,000 mobile subscribers are currently enjoying Flow’s superfast 4G LTE network. And that number is expected to double by yearend.

“In less than two months, just over 16,000 mobile accounts, both prepaid and post-paid, are enjoying the benefits of our 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. This means there are now thousands of Barbadians who are better equipped to leverage mobile connectivity,” said Nicôle Layne, Vice President of Technology, Flow Barbados.

Ms Layne was speaking as part of celebrations for World Telecommunications and Information Society Day in Heroes Square on Wednesday. Hosted by the Telecommunications Unit, this year’s theme was ‘Big Data for Big Impact‘.

We currently have thirty nine LTE sites online which is unprecedented in the Caribbean and more sites will come on stream as we continue to build out the infrastructure. The number of connected devices we have in our life has exploded over the past couple of years and Barbados actually has more than one hundred percent mobile penetration, with several people owning more than one mobile device. This is a clear indication of people wanting to stay connected and our LTE network is facilitating that connectivity at superfast speeds,” she said.

Flow launched its LTE network in March, a move that ushered in the fourth generation of mobile telephony across the island. The company is also currently offering free SIM card swaps at its retail stores for customers with LTE-compatible devices. Customers are also advised to install the latest software updates for their unique device.

“This drive for data will directly help shape the future of Barbados, and as mobile devices and related connectivity continue to be more and more embedded in the fabric of our society, the presence of this LTE network points to faster and more convenient ways of doing business and staying connected to the things that matter most,” added Layne.

In the meantime, we remain driven to deliver the very best communication services to local government, businesses, families and individuals.”
