3 Bajans and a Trini – Held for $913,000.00 BBD of Ganja

Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and charged three (3) Barbadians, and a Trinidadian for a number of drug related offences committed on the Wednesday the 1st of February 2017. While along the Light House Road, Ragged Point, St. Phillip, and Marley Vale Road St. Philip respectively.

They are Barbadians, Mark Antonio Powers 44 years of Peat Bay Road, Merricks, St. Philip, (Farmer), Justin Selman 47 years of Woodbourne St. Philip, (Painter), Dwayne Jamal Lewis 31 years of St. Lawrence Christ Church, and Trinidadian fisherman, Darius Conrad Peters 24 years.

A) Powers and Peters were jointly charged for the below mentioned offences committed along the Light House Road, Ragged Point, St. Phillip:

1) Possession of Cannabis
2) Trafficking of Cannabis
3) Possession with Intent to Supply Cannabis.

B) Peters, the Trinidadian fisherman, faces separate charges for:
1) Importation of Cannabis
2) Disembarking other than at a port of entry
3) Entering the island other than at a port of entry.

Total weight of cannabis is 170.1 kilos. Street value Six hundred and eighty thousand, four hundred dollars Barbados currency. ($680,400.00)

C) Selman and Lewis were jointly charged for the below mentioned offences committed Marley Vale Road St. Philip:
1) Possession of Cannabis
2) Possession of Cannabis with intent to Supply
3) Trafficking in Cannabis.

Total weight of the cannabis is 53 Kilos or 116.6 lbs, with an estimated street value Two hundred and thirty-three thousand dollars ($233,000.00) Barbados Currency.

C I R C U M S T A N C E S

Acting on information received police officers went on duty where they encountered the men in vehicles along the Light House Road and Marley Vale Road respectively. The vehicles were searched and the drugs discovered. The men were all arrested and later charged for the mentioned offences.

The accused men all appeared before Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court on Saturday the 4th of February 2017.

Mark Powers and Darius Peters were both remanded to Her Majesty Prisons Dodds to reappear in the District ‘C’ Court on the 10th of February 2017.

Justin Selman and Dwayne Lewis were both granted bail at the sum of one hundred and twenty thousand dollars, with one surety, also to reappear in the District ‘C’ Court on the 10th of February 2017.
