Scores of primary school students turned out on Sunday for the opening of the 2016 Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Festival.

Students from primary schools around the island faced off against each other in the round-robin preliminaries at the Desmond Haynes Oval at Carlton Cricket Club.

The festival was off to a flashy start with dazzling sportsmanship as these budding cricketers took diving catches and hit back to back sixes.

Scotiabank Treasurer for Caribbean East, Jamaal Roach, who did the coin toss at the start of the first games, expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to be a part of this year’s festival and to share it with his young son.

“It is a wonderful thing to watch this future generation of cricketers here this morning. Scotiabank is committed to do our part in developing the next great cricketers for Barbados and for the West Indies. It is truly exciting to know we could be watching the next Kraigg Brathwaite or Hailey Matthews right now,” said Roach.

The festival continues with the second set of preliminaries Saturday 17th, December followed by the final on Sunday 18th December at the Desmond Haynes Oval at Carlton Cricket Club.
