16 acts were announced for the 2016 Honey Jam Concert at a reception at the Careenage Bar on Thursday 13th October. There will be a mix of some new artists performing on the Honey Jam stage for the first time along with some alums returning to help celebrate their 6th anniversary. As always, it will be an eclectic mix of genres, hip hop, soul, country, RnB, dance, reggae all backed by the NJ30+ band.
Before the artists were introduced, new sponsor Valerie Workman of Island Ice spoke about why they decided to come on board:
“Island Ice is proud to partner with the Honey Jam team in their efforts to motivate, develop and mentor aspiring female artists. I personally have attended many of the showcases over the years, and each year I am thoroughly impressed by the artists who hit the stage exemplifying grace, melodic prowess. While it is undeniable the sheer talent that exists in all of these young ladies, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge and congratulate efforts of founder Ebonnie Rowe who continuously seeks opportunities in developing a skill set for our girls to help propel them into the competitive music industry.
It is important that we each play our part to develop strong, independent, creative young people. In fact we must all strive to ensure that our artist are given opportunities to create and utilize their gifted talents. No longer is Barbados just an island in middle of the Atlantic, we are recognized internationally for our creative outputs. Support of programmes such as this, help in development of our global citizens, happy to represent
Barbados on any ‘stage’ and fly the Barbados flag high.
I encourage all of the 2016 participants to take advantage of every workshop, every radio or TV appearance and every interview. Rarely are artists given an opportunity like this to shine. Honey Jam has provided you with a platform backed by sponsors such as myself and we are all rooting for you. Don’t ever be afraid to celebrate the Superwoman in you. “
Honey Jam alum Faith Callender spoke glowingly about her experiences with both Honey Jam and Honey Jazz over the years saying “I’m so proud to be a part of this movement and have learned and grown so much as a result and have also seen the programme get bigger and better every year. It’s such a great support to all of us even long after we do the show. I would encourage the “newbies” in this year’s lineup to really soak it all in and take advantage of the great opportunities.”
Another alum, Nikita, pledged to be there every step of the way to support each of the artists and ensure they are prepared to put forward their best performance.
It was announced that with assistance from the BTMI New York office, Grammy Award-Winning songwriter Angela Hunte will be participating in a workshop on November 4.
