HBO OFFERS THE MOST ANTICIPATED SEASON PREMIERES AND FINALES IN APRIL
HBO firmly holds its place as the home to TV’s most exciting programming with a line-up of the most celebrated and awarded series and movies. On Sunday, April 24th, HBO presents a night of epic premieres including new seasons of the global phenomenon taking fans by storm, Game of Thrones, Emmy® winner for Best Comedy Series, Veep, and the original comedy, Silicon Valley. April also features the premiere of the new HBO original film, Confirmation, starring Kerry Washington, premiering simultaneously with the United States on April 16th.
EXCLUSIVE SEASON PREMIERES
On Sunday, April 24th, HBO unveils some of the year’s most awaited exclusive season premieres, simultaneously with the United States.
The worldwide phenomenon, Game of Thrones, returns for its highly anticipated sixth season at 21hrs*. The hugely popular and critically acclaimed fantasy series, winner of 12 Emmy® Awards, left viewers on the edge of their seats at the end of its season five finale, with the death of the beloved protagonist Jon Snow.
Silicon Valley premieres its third season at 22hrs*. The comedy series highlights the eccentric characters populating the high-tech startup scene and their road to success. Loosely based on creator Mike Judge’s (Beavis and Butt-Head) own experiences as an engineer in Silicon Valley in the 1980s, season three picks after Richard Hendricks loses his company, Pied Piper.
· The new original adult animated series, Animals, chronicling the adventures of various critters living in New York City, ends its first season on April 8th at 23:30hrs*.
· Togetherness, which follows the lives of four conflicted four adults in their 40’s, comes to a close on April 10th at 22:30hrs*.
· Vinyl, the new drama series created by Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, Rich Cohen and Mick Jagger, about the music business in New York City in the 1970s, concludes its first season run on April 17th at 22hrs*. The series was recently renewed for a second season.
· The fifth season of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning series, Girls, ends on April 17th at 23hrs*. The tragicomedy of four friends forging their way through the highs and lows of their twenties will return for its sixth and final season in 2017.
Emmy® and Oscar® winner Steven Okazaki (HBO’s White Light/Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) takes an in-depth look into the growing heroin epidemic in the U.S. with Heroin: Cape Cod, USA, premiering April 7th at 21hrs*. The harrowing tale takes place in the most unlikely of places, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to witness firsthand how opiate addiction has taken over the lives of eight people in their early twenties. The film is produced, directed and edited by Steven Okazaki, with co-producers, Lise Balk King and Vanessa Carr.
HOLLYWOOD MOVIE PREMIERES
HBO continues to bring forth the best box office films every Saturday night at 21hrs* throughout the month of April.
The HBO original film Confirmation brings together an all-star, award-winning cast, premiering on April 16th, simultaneously with the United States. The film tells the story of the explosive 1991 Clarence Thomas Supreme Court confirmation hearings, depicting a pivotal moment in American history that became a turning point in workplace equality and gender politics. Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Kerry Washington (Scandal) leads the ensemble, along with Wendell Pierce (HBO’s Treme and The Wire), Greg Kinnear (Oscar® and Golden Globe® nominee for As Good as It Gets), Jeffrey Wright (Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner for HBO’s Angels in America and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), Eric Stonestreet (Emmy® winner for Modern Family) and Jennifer Hudson (Oscar® winner for Dreamgirls).
Starring Oscar® nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Nightcrawler airs on HBO on April 2nd. Gyllenhaal portrays Louis Bloom, an awkward young man who falls upon an unexpected career path that allows him to finally feel a sense of accomplishment and worth, albeit at the expense of bone-chilling circumstances.
Comedic powerhouses Adam Sandler and Kevin James star in Pixels, arriving to HBO on April 23rd. When aliens intercept video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack Earth, using the games as models. Knowing that he must employ a similar strategy, President Will Cooper, played by James, recruits his childhood pal, former video-game champ and home-theater installer Sam Brenner, played by Sandler, to lead a team of old-school arcade players and a military specialist in an all-out battle to save the planet.
Two-time Oscar® nominee, Will Smith plays Nicky, a slick and smooth con man, in Focus, premiering on April 30th. This suspenseful caper follows Nicky taking Jess, played by Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), under his wing to teach her the ropes without throwing him off his own game.
The MAX original series, Banshee, premieres its fourth and final season on MAX Prime on April 4 at 20hrs*. Created by Alan Ball (HBO’s True Blood), Banshee relays the story of Lucas Hood, an ex-con and thief who sets out to find his former lover and partner-in-crime, Carrie Hopewell. Hood assumes the identity of the town’s sheriff and continues his criminal activities… Winner of a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Supporting Role, the series is executive produced by Jonathan Trooper, David Schickler, Peter Macdissi, Alan Ball and Greg Yaitanes.
The End of the Tour airs on MAX on April 10th at 22hrs*. Starring Jesse Eisenberg (Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice), Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and Anna Chlumsky (HBO’s Veep), the film tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace, which took place right after the 1996 publication of the author’s groundbreaking epic novel, “Infinite Jest.”
