Scotiabank continues to reach out to the community and support its employees and young people who are doing the same.
Last month, the Bank, aided by some of its staffers and their children, assisted the Ballroom Dance Club of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in hosting its annual Christmas party for more than 100 youngsters from communities around the YMCA’s Pinfold Street headquarters.
Club Secretary Veona Maloney said that thanks to Scotiabank, the club was able to entertain children from the Greenfield, Gills Road and Lightfoot Lane areas of the City and also bring smiles to the faces of several other young people.
“We also sent gift packages to the children of the Overcomers Church which meets in Roebuck Street, which allowed us to extend our reach of bringing Christmas cheer to even more of the less urban fortunate,” Maloney said, adding that prayer and carol singing was also part of the Yuletide session with the church’s youth.
“Overall, we achieved our objectives thanks to Scotiabank’s support.”
In addition to the Bank’s sponsoring the annual event, a group of their employees and the employees’ children and schoolmates lent a hand to the YMCA in preparing for the party.
The seven Harrison College students and one pupil of Queen’s College are working towards the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level (CCSLC) offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), which has a community service module that requires students in Barbados to each perform 30 hours of service.
