As part of the Barbados Water Authority mains upgrade program, Infra Inc. (a Jada Construction subsidiary) has been contracted to install a 16 inch main totaling approximately 600 metres from the round-a-bout at the top of Roebuck Street/ Harmony Hall/Halls Road/ Tweedside Road along Tweedside Road to the intersection of Welches/Government Hill/Bridge Road and Pine Road. This work will be done in one phase and by the trenchless installation method: –

Horizontal directional drilling

The pipe that is being replaced is the 15″ ductile iron pipe – It is being replaced with HDPE 16″ pipe. These pipes arrive on site in 40′ lengths and are then welded together and will remain strung out on the side of the street which will be to the east of the intersection along Government Hill, until they are installed.

This phase is projected to last 4 weeks, commencing on the 14th September until 10th October and Tweedside Road will be restricted to ONE WAY traffic into Bridgetown. We would however encourage motorist to use alternate routes i.e. Belmont Road since they will be delays along Tweedside Road with heavy equipment traversing the work zone.

All vehicular traffic coming down Government Hill going onto Tweedside, making the right turn from Welches onto Tweedside and making the left turn onto Tweedside from Pine Road are permitted to travel down Tweedside Road.
All the streets on the left highlighted in blue off Tweedside Road namely, Harrison Road, Chadderton Road, Hunte’s Road, Norman Road, Alkins Road, St. Hill Road are permitted to turn left only onto Tweedside Road.

Signs will be placed in accordance with the Ministry of Public Works’ specifications, at the top of these streets on the left hand side, these will read LEFT TURN ONLY and PROCEED WITH CAUTION UTILITY WORK AHEAD.

Traffic will not be allowed to go up Tweedside Road from Roebuck Street or Harmony Hall and will have to proceed across Halls Road and up Belmont Road. Infra (a Jada Construction subsidiary) will erect directional arrows at the round-a-bout directing traffic to Halls Road, stating ROAD CLOSED and arrows directing motorist to keep right.

In addition Infra will place road signs on Roebuck Street and Harmony Hall stating TWEEDSIDE ROAD IS CLOSED.

All vehicular traffic exiting from the roads highlighted namely 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ave. Nurse land, Grosvenor Road, Baycroft Road, 1st Ave. Railway Road, Fairfeild Road and Goddard Road will be permitted to make RIGHT TURNS ONLY and travel down Tweedside Road. We will place signs at the end of these streets on the left hand side stating RIGHT TURN ONLY and PROCEED WITH CAUTION: UTILITY WORK AHEAD.
