According to the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank, the Consumer Price Index shows an inflation rate of almost zero in the DR.
On Sunday, 20 September 2015, however, the director of the governmental consumer protection agency, ProConsumidor, said that the prices of some basic consumer items have gone up by as much as 48-60%.
Altagracia Paulino said that the steepest price increases had been applied to milk, onions and garlic.
