A walkthrough of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s kitchen facilities was conducted today with representatives from the National Union of Public Workers and the hospital’s management personnel.

These included President Akanni McDowall, 1st Vice President of the NUPW, Joy-ann Inniss, Assistant General Secretary, Wayne Walrond, QEH Director of Support Services, Louise Bobb and the QEH Shop Stewards. It was agreed that the workers would return to the job in an effort to test the environment to determine if the ventilation had improved.

Corrective measures undertaken by the Management of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital involved the installation of two new extractor fans to complement the cooling systems that are already in place for improving the air quality in the area.

Management at the hospital is committed to ensuring that the workers are in a safe and healthy environment and therefore, any additional adjustments will be undertaken as they are identified.

Patient care at the QEH is paramount and it is management’s responsibility to ensure that it is not compromised.
