NexCyx returns with another Season of Mahalia’s Corner – Featured artists include Hal Linton, Gabby, Edwin Yearwood, Nikita & Betty Payne

NexCyx is shaking things up for the fifth season of their popular open mic showcase Mahalia’s Corner. Produced under their new company NexWorld Productions Inc., the show premieres this Sunday 6th September at the Hilton Barbados Resort with local favorite Nikita.

It continues every Sunday until October 4th with a dynamic lineup of featured artists including Edwin Yearwood, The Mighty Gabby, Betty Payne and Hal Linton with Damian Marvay.

"As always you never know what to expect with the musical arrangements," said NexCyx frontwoman Mahalia, the show's namesake.

As always you never know what to expect with the musical arrangements,” said NexCyx frontwoman Mahalia, the show’s namesake.

“Whatever you know of the artist, throw it through the window. You’re going to see a different side,” she continued, alluding to the original acoustic arrangements Mahalia’s Corner has become famous for.

“We’re extremely excited that internationally acclaimed artist and our own hometown boy, Hal Linton, has agreed to close the season with Damian Marvay. He plans to release some new music too,” Mahalia revealed.

Each show also features an open mic session for anyone brave enough to sign up on the night of the show. This year they are also introducing the Spotlight where they will feature a surprise up and coming local artist.

There is so much talent here in Barbados but there is not always a platform for that talent to shine,” Mahalia explained.

Before she joined NexCyx, Mahalia honed her singing and rapping skills at open mic sessions. Mahalia’s Corner started as a way for her to provide the same opportunity to young talent; and even though featured artists have been added to the mix, it still remains a focal point for the show.

Mahalia’s Corner is about great music, a sense of community, support of the local arts, great vibes and an all-round fantastic time,” Mahalia said. “It keeps growing and getting better each year. This season will be our best ever,” she predicted.
