DIGICEL ASSISTS HAIRDRESSER FOR SECOND YEAR TO TREAT KIDS
DIGICEL (Barbados) Ltd. joined forces with hairdresser Tammy Headley for the second year to give a special group of children from the Phillipi Gospel Assembly the perfect ending to their 2015 summer holidays.
Headley, who takes close to 20 children to various places of interest across the island on her off days each summer, treated them to an Atlantis Submarine underwater tour recently, with Digicel’s assistance.
“This was fantastic. They were 18 children between the ages of four and 14 this year and only one of them had been on the submarine before. So this was an extra special treat for the others as it was something they never experienced before. Most of them would never have been able to take this tour on their own and I definitely would not have been able to fund it by myself. So we must thank Digicel for coming on board for a second year to make this happen,” she explained.
Digicel’s CEO, Johnny Ingle, explained that the company first heard of Headley’s efforts last year: “We were very impressed with Tammy’s selflessness and the fact that she was giving up her off days to ensure that the children enjoy their summer vacation while learning about the island.
“We were more than happy to come on board again this year as we are always looking for extraordinary Barbadians, doing extraordinary things in the community to highlight or assist. We see Tammy as one such person and want to do all we can to encourage her to keep up the good work.”
Eleven year-old Omari Headley was one of the excited children who took the tour: “Wow! This was amazing. I always wanted to go on the submarine because I love marine life but when I first heard we were going I was so nervous. I put it all in God’s hand and when I got on I didn’t even think of the depth. I also went on google before to find out all I could about the tour so I would know what to expect.
“I am so happy I was able to experience this. I already thanked Ms. Headley for making this possible and for taking the time to take us around each summer. I also want to thank Digicel for assisting her. We really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot.”
