An ecstatic Calvin Noel took home the BBD $50,000.00 grand prize in the final phase of the just ended Stay Up with Digicel Summer Promotion.
But he did it the hard way by having to brave the blistering sun and soaking rain for more than eight hours during the Williams Industries Digicel International Race Meet at Bushy Park in a nerve-wracking ‘Hand on the Van’ competition with two other finalists, to walk away with the grand prize.
Overwhelmed with joy, the owner of Promotions Plus revealed afterwards, “This is perfect timing. I have a number of projects on hold now for over a year because of lack of funding and can now get them off the ground with this cash. These are tough times and no one is lending money. So I am extremely happy to be the winner.
Noel also admitted that when he first got the call telling him he was one of the three finalists, he thought it was a scam and did not pay much attention until he received another call and then an email with the details for the final aspect of the competition.
The other two finalists competing against Noel were Ayesha McGeary, who placed third to win $4 000 and an Alcatel handset, and Joseph Clarke, who stood for Jason Outram and took the $6 000 second prize along with an Alcatel handset.
Digicel’s CEO, Johnny Ingle, was happy that the Summer Promotion had justified their decision to give cash as the main prizes. He said: “Our very first winner, Anya Joseph, used her prize money to upgrade her small business and now our final winner is also able to advance his business with his win. This is fantastic and a fitting end to our Summer Promotion.”
The Stay Up with Digicel Summer Promotion gave customers the chance to win the $100 000 total over a period of ten weeks by simply topping-up their mobile phones with $15 or more; paying their post-paid bill on time and in full; chatting for four minutes or more; or sending up to four or more text messages in a day.
