On Barbados’ eastern coastline, a play-park was dedicated to Grace Maughn in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development of the youth of the parish of St. John and Barbados. The event took place at the historic St. John’s Parish Church, where Miss Maughn has been involved all her life. The occasion was celebrated with a special church service and the unveiling of a plaque.

Miss Maughn has also been a toastmaster for approximately two years as a member of the St. John’s Toastmasters Club. The new executive committee for the 2015-2016 year and members were also blessed by rector of the church Canon Dr. Jeffrey Mayers at the service. Toastmaster Grace also addressed the congregation on that special day. Also during the service, Vice President of Public Relations, Jamilla Sealy, made a special donation to the Church’s Roof Fund on behalf of the Club.

Other members of the Club’s new executive are: President, Deborah Howell, CC CL; Vice President Education, Karen Sealy-Cox; Vice President Membership, Suzanne Jackman; Secretary and Founding President DTM Linda Griffith; Treasurer, Myrna Farnum CC CL and Sergeant-at-Arms and Immediate Past President, Lynn Jemmott CC.

St. John’s Toastmasters Club was chartered in 2013 and achieved Distinguished Club status in 2014-2015. The Club meets every second and fourth Saturday at the BRC Hall of the St. John’s Parish Church from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
