“Fantopia” awaits fans at Flow AnimeKon at Two Mile Hill this weekend!

Animated fandom will be out in their pageantry this weekend at the Flow AnimeKon Expo, the Caribbean’s premier pop culture convention taking place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Now in its sixth year, the event is being held under the theme ‘Fantopia – Where reality far exceeds all imaginings‘, and according to coordinators Melissa Young and Omar Kennedy, that’s exactly what fans can expect during the two-day extravaganza.

"In just over five years, AnimeKon has grown from humble beginnings to the point where we are now hosting more than 150 exhibitors and thousands of fans. It certainly presents Barbados with a great opportunity to leverage our position of being the first to explore this burgeoning movement within the Caribbean," said Young.

And already the creative enterprise is paying dividends with telecommunications provider Flow recently joining as title sponsor.

"AnimeKon has blossomed into a platform for the expression of creativity and the exchange of ideas, and Flow is pleased to be partnering with them as they continue to establish themselves as a movement on the cutting-edge of culture and self-expression," said Marilyn Sealy, Corporate Communications and Public Relations Manager.

“As Barbados’ leading full-service provider, we are driven to connect people, and equally as important, we want to help connect their ideas. In AnimeKon, we have a platform where the numerous benefits of telephony will be immediately seen. We are very excited about the possibilities.”

She added: "Flow will have dedicated areas for mobile and advanced video services and our wizards will be on hand to assist patrons in the capabilities of our products and services. This also offers a unique opportunity for gamers to experience our high speed broadband services. In addition, those attending on the weekend will also be able to purchase phones, top ups and sign up for all our services."

AnimeKon caters to the latest and greatest in comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies and television. The convention also provides fans with in-depth panel discussions and workshops catering to a host of related topics including graphic design, costume design, stage design and production.

Enthusiasts can also look forward to being transported to different worlds in a special 'green room', along with meeting celebrities such as Kamui Cosplay, Yaya Han and Calen Hoffman, as well as UK actor Christian Howard of Street Fighter fame.

The highlight of the expo has always been the highly-anticipated Cosplay Tournament, where participants don elaborate costumes mimicking their favourite characters.
