The disappointment for (Underground & Bajan Reporter) was hearing responses to two questions. The first was if Cahill Energy is aware of a plasma gasification plant built on any island of similar size to Barbados anywhere in the world. Clare Cowan answered she was not aware. And the second question: how would environmental standards be enforced – to which Clare Cowan responded a community effort is her best recommendation. She added the government will likely enact legislation borrowed from the UK or Canada to enforce the standards required.

Meanwhile a former Bank On Me contestant and a one-time UK actor now a Green manufacturer John Fayne Cleaver had his own concerns on why Cahill Energy is a Waste Of Time;-

Barbados is proposing to spend over $700 million USD on a Waste to Energy plant with a contract so one sided in favour of the firm who will run the project, Cahill Energy, Barbados will be financially liable for potentially billions of US dollars for years to come. In addition the potential Environmental impact is even more disturbing.

This contract has many undesirable elements for Barbados, the importation of waste from other countries, the importance of old tyres, the potential importation of hazardous waste plus numerous other tax and duty exemptions that will have such a negative impact on the future health and well being of Barbados for decades to come. The deal is so one sided in favour of Cahill, the Government has not even specified a minimum amount of electricity the plant must generate.

The deal has been signed off by four Government Ministers (notably not the Prime Minister) with little discussion from Government as a whole.
