Barbados National Trust has new General Manager as of 1st July

The Barbados National Trust just revealed their appointment of Caribbean legend, Dr Lennox Honychurch to the post of new General Manager of the Barbados National Trust with effect from 1st July, 2015. The prior occupant Billy Gollop is now readying to enjoy his retirement.

Dr Honychurch was born on the island of Dominica of a Barbadian family whose roots in Barbados go back to the eighteenth century. He was educated at the Lodge School, Barbados and Oxford University from where he received his doctorate in anthropology.

The new General Manager is skilled in many areas. He is an artist, an actor, an educator, a noted radio and television personality, an excellent public speaker and lecturer and an author whose many books include school texts which are used throughout the Eastern Caribbean. He was at one point in time, Dominica’s youngest politician and was a member of the late P.M. Eugenia Charles’ team which negotiated the independence of Dominica and is a member of the Council of the Open University of the University of the West Indies.

Honychurch’s forte and great passion however is in the realm of heritage. He often serves as consultant for international agencies on matters relating to heritage and has given his expertise to a number of museums and heritage organizations throughout the Caribbean. Lennox Honychurch is a hands on person who is not afraid to mix concrete or wield a shovel.

He leads by example and inspires the team which works with him. His greatest achievement to date has been the restoration of the military garrison at the cabrits, Dominica. Dr Lennox Honychurch is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Anthony B. Sagba award for Caribbean Excellence.

The Barbados National Trust announced via Facebook how they are pleased to welcome Dr Honychurch back to Barbados where as a teenager, he immersed himself in things Barbadian at the home of his uncle and aunt, the legendary authorĀ Frank Collymore and his wife Ellice Collymore.
