Bajan Rugby Divas in Olympic Qualifier
The Barbados Women’s Rugby Sevens Squad – the Bajan Rugby Divas – are bound for the 2015 NACRA Sevens Competition in Cary, North Carolina, USA. The squad, which left Barbados since June 11, comprises: Celina Callender, Alyssa Gibbons, Cherrise Harte, Shade Harris , Erin Hazelwood, Karen Holmes, Tamara Humphrey, Akilah Lashley , Kimberley Payne , Stacia Payne , Danielle Phillips and Anna Vlugman.
The Manager is Romeo Mayers, while the Coach is BRFU President Kenneth Payne.
The Rugby Divas have been training hard for the last four months in preparation for this event.
Coach Mayers says that they are extremely grateful and appreciative of the support given by Mr. Andrew Callender, Strength Training Coach, as well Surfside Gym for use of their facilities, and the excellent health supplements courtesy of Armstrong Agencies.
While Rugby XVs used to be a regular Olympic sport, 2016 marks the return of any form of rugby to the world’s greatest sports competition since 1924.
The Bajan Rugby Divas have been working very hard in preparation for this event and are very confident that they will give a good account of themselves. Other teams in the same group (Group A) are USA, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Pool B comprises Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas and Guyana.
