“H.O.R.S.E CHARITY HOSTS ANNUAL FUNDRAISER” All About the HORSE: A family Affair
The issue of neglected and abandoned horses while improving, still plagues Barbados and one the Humane Organisation for the Relief of Suffering Equines (HORSE) continues to battle.
During a press conference to launch their annual fundraising event scheduled for May 17th, Monique Archer President – HORSE explained that since April 2013, the group had rescued and rehabilitated over 50 horses. They have also expanded their agenda by using the rescues to facilitate classes for kids interested in becoming jockeys.
Also, in collaboration with the Learning Centre, they assist in providing equine therapy sessions for children with disabilities.
Mrs Archer said, “One of our key mandates is the rehabilitation of neglected horses and ponies and we are able to achieve this with the support of donors and volunteers.” She added, “Through our free jockey school we have been able to facilitate many students and hope they go on to achieve the great success of Barbadian riders such as Patrick Husbands.”
The group has also been able to support the continued education of local veterinarians with the introduction of new techniques in holistic equine care.

The fund raising event entitled All About the HORSE will be held at the Holder’s Hill Polo Field, will be focused on family time and will provide an opportunity for Barbadians and visitors to interact with the ponies and horses in a fun atmosphere. The featured Chefette Kiddies Corral includes pony rides, face painting, and a mechanical bull, horseshoe toss, pin the tail, spin the wheel game, etc.
