HBO CONFIRMS SECOND SEASON PREMIERE OF ‘TRUE DETECTIVE’ PLUS TWO NEW ORIGINAL COMEDIES, ‘BALLERS’ AND ‘THE BRINK’
HBO has confirmed the season two premiere of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated hit drama series True Detective, along with the debut of two new original comedies, Ballers and The Brink, on Sunday, June 21st in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States.
Considered “the most intelligent series in TV history” by British philosopher Nick Land, True Detective returns with another mysterious drama in this eight-episode second season. A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California.
Following ‘True Detective’ is the premiere of new comedy series Ballers, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The ten-episode season, which looks at the lives of former and current football players, follows former superstar Spencer Strasmore as he gets his life on track in retirement while mentoring other current and former players through the daily grind of the business of football. Rob Corrdry, Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon and Arielle Kebble also star. Created and executive produced by Steve Levinson (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Entourage); executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg, Dany Garcia, Julian Farino, Evan Reilly and Rob Weiss.
Capping off the night is another new original series, The Brink, beginning its ten-episode season. This epic dark comedy focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate, desperate men: Secretary of State Walter Larson, lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot and ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson, who must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War Three. The Brink takes us on a wild ride across multiple time zones to show how the foibles, egos and rivalries of political leaders can take us to the brink of world war. Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Pablo Schreiber, Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin, Esai Morales and Geoff Pierson star. Executive produced by Jerry Weintraub, Roberto Benabib and Jay Roach; created by Roberto Benabib and Kim Benabib.
