HMS SEVERN STARTS HER CARIBBEAN TOUR OF DUTY IN BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS

British Warship HMS SEVERN is visiting Bridgetown, Barbados this week at the beginning of her deployment to the Caribbean. The UK-based River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel has deployed to the region, recently taking over from HMS ARGYLL, in order provide to reassurance in the region, conduct counter-narcotics tasking whilst also being prepared to conduct disaster reconnaissance and reporting following any natural disaster, for which she is fully prepared.

HMS SEVERN is a Portsmouth-based River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel which will be stationed in the Caribbean and surrounding region until July 2015.

During the visit the ship is hosting a number of visits from local dignitaries and community groups, whilst also playing a football match and taking part in a rugby training session alongside Barbados RFC.

The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Steve Banfield, said, “HMS Severn is extremely proud to be visiting Barbados at the start of our period as the Royal Navy’s presence in the Caribbean. We look forward to working closely with local authorities and making close and lasting ties in the island during our time here.”
