Trinidad and Tobago’s Tourism Minister: Callous & reprehensible act on German Visitors

A callous and reprehensible act that we condemn in the strongest way! This is how Gerald Hadeed –¬†Minister of Tourism of Trinidad and Tobago – has described the murder of German nationals, Brigid and Hubertus Keil in Tobago.

He added: “I give the assurance to the Keils’ family members and friends that Trinidad & Tobago will apply every possible effort to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice, in the quickest possible time.”

The T&T Tourism Minister also assured holidaymakers that while the gruesome act casts a shadow over personal security for visitors, Trinidad & Tobago remains a tourist destination that takes the safety and comfort of their visitors very seriously.

I want the world to know that while this is indeed a horrific act, it is not a common occurrence on tourists who visit our paradise island“.

Police are proceeding aggressively with investigations into the circumstances of the attack, with a promise from Mr. Hadeed that the authorities will be scrupulous and exhaustive in their efforts.

The deaths come as a shock to all of Trinidad and Tobago, in a time when Tobago’s already low crime rate has been progressively reduced in the past 12 months.

National Security Agencies, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), have in recent times increased the use of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Surveillance, strengthened its Coast Guard Command Centre in Scarborough, and introduced comfort patrols to bolster the existing security measures on the island.

Minister Hadeed has confirmed that these measures will be increased in order to maintain Tobago’s reputation as an attractive and preferred tourist destination.
