During wide-ranging discussions, which focused on general security issues affecting Barbados and the region, the Prime Minister and the U. S. Attorney General exchanged views on the drug trade, the issue of small arms and light weapons, human trafficking, and civil forfeiture of assets which are the proceeds of crime.

Mr. Stuart said that Barbados attached great importance to its relationship with the United States of America, and was committed to the deepening and strengthening of that relationship.

In response, Mr. Holder affirmed the importance of the Caribbean region to the U. S., and observed that the partnership they had forged had worked quite well, to the advantage of both the U. S. and the Caribbean.

Both the Prime Minister and the U. S. Attorney General agreed that the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative had benefited both the United States and the Caribbean.

Those present at the courtesy call, which lasted for 30 minutes, were Barbados’ Attorney General, Adriel Brathwaite; U. S. Ambassador to Barbados, Dr. Larry Palmer; and senior government officials from both countries.
