DOMINICAN MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES

Members of the Drug Squad arrested and formally charged Dominican national Abiyah Tatawa James 27 years for drug offences committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport. He was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession
  • Possession with intent to supply
  • Trafficking; and
  • Importation of 2 kgs of cannabis.

The accused arrived about 9:45 pm on 16th November from Dominica; he cleared Immigration and was interviewed by police. A search was conducted of his luggage and one transparent plastic package containing cannabis was found in a false bottom of his suitcase. Total weight 2 kgs.

Abiyah James appeared at the District B Magistrates Court on Monday 17th November, 2014, and pleaded guilty to the charges. On the charge of Importation he was fined $20,000 forthwith or 18 months in prison. He was Convicted, Reprimanded and Discharged on the remaining charges.
