Where is one of the least popular hotels in Barbados? Trip Advisor says in Oldbury, St Philip… This Casa seems not so Grande?

Casa Grande 3

I was scouring Facebook placing updates for my Advertisers in my Groups when I saw how a number of my pals were having a Comedy Night in reading a pile of bad reviews on Trip Advisor. It drew my attention since Barbados usually makes a Top Ten or Top 5 list in a positive manner, yet out of 43 reviews there were 33 which slammed Casa Grande near the Airport – this is almost 77% in a negative rating, why?

It seems LIAT uses the place a lot when a flight is delayed, much to the chagrin of this user;- ‘Our flight LIAT flight was canceled so we missed our flight to London so LIAT decided to put us up at Casa Grande which should have been “Hotel from Hell“. The entire experience was horrific from the time we got into the taxi. The driver was rude did not even say goodnight or made any conversation at all. Now to the Hotel itself is pretty good and honestly speaking management needs replacing. Firstly there is (no) bottled water in the rooms for purchase nor is there any in the hotel lobby. The dining experience sucks the cook cook not be bothered to whip up a steak for one of our team members so we decided to go with the pathetic burgers which was a disaster…’

If your chauffeur decides to commiserate with you, wouldn’t you feel as though you’re about to enter a tropical version of Hotel California? ‘”Good luckthis is what the cab driver told me when he dropped us at this hotel and at first I couldn’t realize what he meant, it was already dark. We chose the hotel on the web for one night transit from Dominica to England and we chose Casa Grande because we saw many pictures of the swimming pool and a big playground that seemed ideal for our 6 years old son. Once in the room we found that only 1 of the available 14 tv channels was working, but after all we didn’t book the hotel for the Tv. The day after, we (opened) our window and what we saw was an abandoned building, none of the 100 plus rooms was occupied we were the only ones. We asked for breakfast and we were served three omelettes we didn’t order…’

I am not condoning nor endorsing these reviews, but they do make Fawlty Towers seem like the Ritz Carlton, despite the onslaught of bad reviews, Casa Grande's staff is nevertheless loyal, which is to be expected in the current economy and Job Climate;-

“I was the person responsible for looking after the guest. It is sad that how persons can write such untruth. No complaints were made to me about any toilets. A report form is given to all guest on leaving the hotel for management to look into any problems non of the same was reported or discussed. There was special service put in place if persons wanted special food no request was made. the food was dropped by a child which was cleaned up. We regret the experience of the couple and would be willing to give them a free stay had they aired any complaints. Being a worker responsible for clients I feel bad that persons can say this behind my back. I worked hard from 4 am just to please my clients. “

In fact, the most obvious thing despite the negative publicity is how reviewers noted and complimented the loyalty and diligence of employees in spite (because of?) of the many challenges listed by former guests - while the customers acknowledge Casa Grande workers, they are praised for trying, but appear not to be met half-way...

Once BTMI (the replacement of the Barbados Tourism Authority) is fully settled, their interim Leadership may need to investigate Casa Grande since we all know what the Jackson 5 sang about one bad apple?
