The memorial and exhibition were conceived of by Professor Emeritus Henry Fraser. Curating the exhibition are Allison Thompson and Ewan Atkinson, bringing bringing particular focus to Grace’s pottery, sculpture and paintings as well as to the many collectors who acquired his works. It was through his work that Bill most eloquently conveyed his philosophy of social responsibility, love and generosity summed up in one of his favourite phrases, “We Are One.” Most collectors acquired multiple pieces of Bill’s work, often over a number of years. This is evidence of the way in which the artist touched the lives of his admirers through his work and it is through this work that his spirit and philosophy continue to radiate.

I am sad to learn of Bill’s death. The last time I knew where he was and he invited me to visit I was struggling with long-term illness and unable to consider travel. I have had periods of partial remission since, and have traveled twice. But not to Barbados yet. Sadly now.
Bill and I traveled parallel paths for several years, and i frequently think of him. He brought good things to my life. We were students at Acadia University, brought together by common classes in music and from both being adult students. He was expansive and I was timidly trying to find my way. So I followed his way of approaching things. Attempted to. And grew from it. Then we met again in art college where we both made the same mistake of taking seriously and genetousely a professor’s request for feedback on his course! Yikes!
Anyway, I have two of his pieces and maybe he has some of mine. I call him a special friend I wanted to see again.
