Working in a highly competitive and stressful environment can take its toll on the human body and mind, a fact which Digicel has taken into account by focusing on the health and wellness of its staff.

The Barbados branch closed its office recently and hosted their staff at the Hilton for a day of fun, team building and education under the theme “Being Well for Peak Performance“.
Throughout the day, Digicel staff were engaged in sessions to promote physical activity and exercise, healthy eating, rest and recovery and mental health.
Head of Human Resources, Kerrigan Roach, said the intention of the initiative was to motivate, inspire and educate staff to reach peak performance in both their work and personal lives:
“The telecommunications industry is a very demanding one and our staff work tirelessly on a daily basis to ensure that our valued customers get the best possible service. On many occasions you can find a number of them working late hours and on weekends, a testament to their level of dedication which Management has recognized and continues to recognize.”
“We therefore saw it as our duty to ensure that our staff were taking care of their health, because we understand the importance of this, not only for the execution of their daily tasks at work, but also as it relates to living a long and fulfilling life”, Roach said.

The Human Resources Manager also noted that the company has been and will continue to encourage staff to employ some of the lessons learnt during the sessions, making reference to the formation of a health & wellness team to keep the momentum going, as well as activity undertaken recently, such as a nature hike, the formation of a Digicel staff cricket team and the continued participation of the Digicel Spartans football team in the local inter-bank football competition.
