Barbadian performers NexCyx return with another Season of Mahalia’s Corner
NexCyx is back with another season of their popular open mic showcase Mahalia’s Corner. The five-week season premieres on Friday 3rd October 2014 at The Sea Rocks Dome, Maxwell Coast Road, Christ Church, with featured artist Marisa Lindsay.
“As usual, you can look forward to great music, great vibes and more surprises in terms of what the featured artists will bring to show,” said NexCyx front woman, Mahalia, who conceptualized the show. Past featured artistes have included Alison Hinds, Livvi Franc, Allan Sheppard and Anderson “Blood” Armstrong.

Each show also features an open mic session for anyone brave enough to sign up on the night of the show. Mahalia said before she joined the band, she was into singing and doing spoken word at open mic sessions. “I wanted to combine those two things and provide upcoming talent with the same type of platform I had,” she said, explaining how Mahalia’s Corner got started.
“In recent years, we’ve moved from not only showcasing unknown talent, but also showing different sides of well known performers,” she added.

Mahalia’s Corner will be held every Friday in October, with a new featured artist being revealed every week.
NexCyx performs at every “Corner” and backs the artists featured in the show. The show has become known for unique and sometimes impromptu arrangements of popular songs.
“One of my favourite moments happened when Alison Hinds was the featured artist in one of the shows,” Mahalia recalled. “She did an on-the-fly acoustic version of Faluma, totally different…and it was not planned. The audience went wild,” she exclaimed.
NexCyx is a five-member alternative hip-hop band based in Barbados. The group has shared the stage with Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, Air Supply, Damien Marley and Wyclef Jean and has played major music events in the Caribbean, US and France.
